Flower Pants

Sometimes you just wanna wear flower pants. Don’t hate! I can seriously see myself wearing these all the time with all different tops and shoes.  They will go with white, chambray, navy, green, grey…. and of course this citron color.  The great thing about any floral print is that there are many colors involved, so that means you can wear it with many different things.  And also stripes.  IMG_6099

I mean, how can you have a bad day when you wear pants with flowers on them? The answer is, you can’t. When you wear loud clothing, make sure to keep the accessories simple – Simple jewelry, shoes and handbag

I will write a post soon to show how to wear these in multiple ways!

Winter in White

Something that people do not expect in winter is for you to wear white.  It is the season of blacks and browns and all the boring colors there are.  But what about those white dresses you have from the summer, who in all honesty, didn’t get worn much because of all the opportunities for them to get a little ketchup on them at the family BBQ.  Take them out for a stroll, they deserve it.

All you need to do is add tights, boots, and a blazer — BAM! Outfit done. If I had a maroon leather jacket, I’d put it with this for going out.

As you can probably tell, I’m pretty obsessed with maroon right now.  Like, I want at least one of every of piece of clothing in it.

Here is another way that I’ve worn a white dress in winter. Not much has changed…. just the jacket and jewelry. 20140207-132458.jpg

Black & White (& Taupe)

Since having a real job, I have realized the value of black and white more than ever before. It is the easiest to wear without sacrificing style! Plus all you really have to do is add a pop of color for a little bit of fun.  Also, switching out the black skirt for a white one really does make a difference!

IMG_6029

However I do have a very hard time wearing just black and white.  So a little taupe can help out with that.  I added this rose gold Rebecca Minkoff handbag and a Jersey Knit Bindhi & Brutus Scarf.

IMG_6027

Seriously obsessed with a white mini skirt right now!

Another way to play up the black and white is to try a white blazer.  Depending on the cut you can wear it with pants or a pencil skirt. I decided to wear my stretchy ponte pants with a leather trim and a black t-shirt.  I cannot even tell you how comfortable these pants are, it is ridiculous.

IMG_9490

Of course with a bright shoe, I think I might be obsessed with a colorful shoe right now. A good statement necklace can’t hurt either! There just needs to be a little more interest, since you are wearing a t-shirt to work…

Add a leopard scarf for that chilly office and a Kate Spade purse for some class, and you have an outfit!

Fun with Scarves

It is always good to have an old episode of Downton Abbey available on your laptop when your flight goes longer than expected. Who doesn’t want to be reminded of the glory of Downton Abbey when both Matthew and Sybil were still alive?

OH I love traveling to visit my family in Virginia.  Thai food, shopping, the fancy shampoo my mom puts in the guest bathroom and the extensive wine collection my parents have at their house- you know the important things.

But ah, you do not read this blog for my travel tips… though I do have quite a few.

Back to scarves!

One thing I LOVE about infinity scarves is all the work in correctly tying and wearing a scarf is mostly done. I even turn a lot of my regular scarves into infinity scarves so I can just throw it on and not worry about it getting all messed up.

This trip I decided to relive an old past time with my mom, fabric shopping! Except this time I actually enjoyed it. (Fabric shopping is one of those things that is awesome for the person shopping, but really awful if you don’t have a project in mind)

I used my mom’s beautiful singer sewing machine and decided to take the scarves out on a test run with my sister. (No, my hair is not going blonde)

20140408-154403.jpg

We went to a winery in Clifton, VA to take the pics and realized that we should probably buy some wine so we would stop getting weird looks from the people working there.

Also because it was an excellent excuse to buy wine.

20140408-154415.jpg

This print I love. It has so many colors, and can go with black AND navy.

And the on trend military jacket…20140408-154430.jpg

How cute is my sister by the way? In the barn pictures she is wearing the multi-colored rayon scarf, which is SO soft and drapes so beautifully!20140408-154548.jpg

This blue tribal print scarf is also great to wear with navy and black. (Those colors are important to me because they are the staples of packing! Or so I think) Also, this is the scarf my husband likes the best. 20140408-154558.jpg

20140408-154050.jpg

This scarf is sold out (My sis bought it, sorry!) But I wanted to take pictures of it anyways!

20140408-154355.jpg

What adds more romance to a look than blush chiffon? The understated print allows this scarf to be worn as a solid and will look FABULOUS with black and white.

I always wondered if store owners kept a lot of the items that they sell, and now that I have a store, I can say, yes they do.  Marketing right?

So many fun options to vamp up your wardrobe! Plus if none of these fits your fancy, we are frequently adding new styles. (And all scarves are on sale this weekend!!)

Come shop for one that fits your style!

Fluted Green Skirt- 8 Ways

Well I didn’t plan this post for St. Patricks Day, but I guess it worked out! I have been eyeing this skirt for months, and it finally went on sale in the store, yay!! I don’t think the staff at J. Crew understood or shared my excitement. This skirt it amazing and I want it it every color. Definitely splurge worthy!

When I was walking out of the store with my “final sale” purchase I got a ping of fear as I realized, I wasn’t even sure I had anything to match it. (I realize there are many more things in this world to fear than not having anything in my closet to match this skirt–don’t judge me!) So I came home, put on some Britney Spears, and started tearing through my closet.  I also drooled my way through the J. Crew catalogue to get some inspiration.

20140317-190055.jpg

First of all, I put the skirt with a t-shirt.  Pretty much the easiest way to wear the skirt.  Tuck it in, half tuck it, or tie it to the side, it will all look right.  Add a necklace, a scarf, or BOTH, and you have an outfit.

20140317-190523.jpg

The easiest way to try the new crop top trend is with a high waisted skirt.  So although I am still too afraid to bare any skin, I did put on a cami and threw a crop top on with it.  And also this awesome scarf.

20140317-190547.jpg

J. Crew puts pullover sweaters and sweatshirts with this skirt in all of their catalogues, so I decided to try that look myself.  Definitely a great way to dress it down for every day wear!

20140317-204650.jpg

I thought maybe I could wear this skirt to work, but clearly it is too short.  However, I did put together a corporate look that can easily be worn out with your friends. Also, all three pieces are on sale, right now.

20140317-190530.jpg

If you are a little more hipster–try tucking in a chambray or white collared shirt, buttoning it all the way up, then putting a statement necklace right up under the collar.

20140317-193111.jpg

Of course as a sucker for white lace, I put it with the green skirt as well. AND IT GOES! Duh. Basically, if you want to look feminine, wear some white lace.

20140317-193056.jpg

I also wanted to show how a cute scarf can make such a difference and really pull a whole outfit together! During the summer, put the skirt with a simple tank and a bright silky scarf. (Add a jean jacket when it gets chilly at night)

20140317-190539.jpg

There are many more ways to wear this skirt, but it is all about proportion. Try something new or stick with your basics!

Playing with Proportions

Something I have noticed lately while people watching, is that dressing well is all about proportions. With everything in life, you must learn moderation (except with cheese, there is never too much cheese), but you can have too many sequins.

You do not want to wear too much sparkle or too much lace, or too much texture, or too many loose fitting layers.

This dress is very loose, so I had a couple options: Wear a belt with it or wear a structured jacket.

20140207-132458.jpg

If you just wear a loose fitting dress or top, it is only going to make you look as big as it is. It will only create more volume, when you want to create shape.  So put something with it that creates the shape you want to have.  A great structured jacket will make all the difference.  However, watch for unflattering jackets as well…. for instance, don’t get a jacket that hits right at your hips.  Get a jacket that gives you a small waist and creates an hourglass shape for you.

20140131-170156.jpg

A cropped moto jacket is a great place to start.  Make sure you try on a few to see what styles flatter your body the best.  I love jackets that are a teeny bit higher in the back than in the front — they make my waist look smaller. I plan to put this floral, quilted, moto, cropped jacket with a loose top and skinny or boyfriend jeans.

More proportion tips to come soon! Happy Friday!!

Black & White Dress

So when I told my husband how I wanted to post more about what I wore everyday instead of just every once in awhile, he started laughing so hard he fell on the floor.  Ok, so I wear a lot of lounge clothes. I admit it. But, I can still get dressed up to go to the grocery store! Another reason why I substitute teach, I can wear my cute dresses and patterned pants.

20140116-194630.jpg

Black and white dresses are awesome because you can wear them during any season and you can wear almost any type of shoe and any type of accessory.   In fact, if you follow this blog I’m sure you will see a lot of black and white dresses.

A lot of times I put a bright belt with this dress, but today I decided to go with a more classic look and put my gold belt and clear bead statement necklace with it.

20140116-194623.jpg

I added a touch of color with this great hunter green jacket from LOFT.

20140116-194611.jpg

Finally I added this great metallic grey scarf to add a little extra layering and also to be more conservative at work.

You can see how easy it is to layer in the winter! If it was freezing I would have added tights, and worn a long coat over the small blazer.
