Floral Blazer – 4 Ways

Well I don’t know about you, but I have a thing for floral print.  A MAJOR thing. So a floral blazer? Well, it was a done deal. Here are 4 ways to wear it:

IMG_6023

The easiest way to wear it is with a t-shirt and jeans.  (Bonus points if you wear them with colored jeans/cords) Just adds that extra sum’n sum’n to an otherwise plain outfit.

IMG_6024

A good casual Friday look would be with a flippy green skirt and a chambray shirt. (I’m pretty much a walking advertisement for LOFT at this point….. they should pay me)

IMG_8955

Of course floral print with stripes. It is the new classic print mix combo.  Get to know it!

IMG_9339

I was putting together another look with this black sweater dress and decided that the floral blazer looked awesome with it! Sometimes the best looks are literally thrown together last minute. Over the knee boots and a mini dress, how could you go wrong?

The Pregnancy Blog

DISCLAIMER: My model Lyssa IS NOT pregnant.  Only pregnant with love and a pillow.

Recently I have found myself surrounded by friends who are expecting a little one, or two. So I was inspired to do a pregnancy blog post, with the help of a friend and a pillow.

What I have realized about stylish women during pregnancy is that they do not try to hide it. In fact, they tend to wear fitted clothing to show off their bump. So my main advice to anyone trying to be stylish AND pregnant, is to wear slim fitting clothing with a structured jacket.  So, a bodycon dress with a jacket that shows off your back and slims your arms.

IMG_9114

A lot of things are going to change during pregnancy (most of which I do not personally know about) but even though your belly might be growing, you still have other beautiful features to show off.  That is the great thing about a good jacket, it can give you the shape you want and help you look smaller in the places you want to look smaller, like your back and your arms, while still showing off your bump. Don’t try to hide under your husbands sweats, embrace this time and channel your inner Kate Middleton.

IMG_9115

What I love about this army vest is that you can add it to almost any sundress and it helps to give you that womanly figure, even when you’re not pregnant. I’m assuming your vest and jacket size will not change too much during pregnancy, opposed to other things, like pants. Also, a jacket can give you shape without adding the skinny belt over the bump…. I have mixed feelings about that look.

Over a flowy dress this vest gives her a waist. IMG_9116

This is my stylish prego work look. Stripe dress with a Floral Jacket. Loft always has these dresses, every single season, so it would be so easy to get one on sale that you could wear during and after your pregnancy. (Of course with a statement necklace to amp up the look a little)IMG_9124

IMG_9125

Easy and comfy.

IMG_9117

This look is probably my favorite, an A-line dress with a fitted burgundy jacket.

IMG_9118

Aww she loves her little pillow baby.

IMG_9119

Now this is the obvious look, maxi dress with fabulous slit, but the cropped jacket adds shape and modesty.  I know all you A-cuppers are so excited to now be C-cups, but not everyone wants to see that.  If in doubt think “What would Kate Middleton Do?” WWKMD? Not wear plunging necklines and spaghetti straps.

IMG_9120

Skinny pants + an empire waist shirt. Done. (My advice is to get the legging jeans from LOFT or ponte leggings with leather details, comfy and flattering – because your legs are still amazing!)IMG_9126

A wrap dress is always a good option as well. Pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after pregnancy. (Think easy access for nursing or your man?) Plus it is one of the most flattering styles made for women. A wrap shirt will have the same effect, but you know how I feel about dresses. Also check out these amazing sandals with a small wedge! I suggest checking out the shoe section at Nordstrom Rack for some comfy cute sandals.IMG_9130

DATE NIGHT!! How amazing is this tight striped body con dress? Lyssa took out the bump and wore this to girls night right afterwards…. Sorry that isn’t an option for most of you.IMG_9127

Women will gain weight in all different places, and for some it is in their face, which is when a scoop or v-neck comes in handy to add length.

IMG_9129

Put it with a leather moto jacket to add some edge, and of course raybans.

Ok, so the bump looks really SUPER fake, but hopefully you were able to  get past that! And this is the time during our photo shoot where we got a little goofy…

IMG_9132

And she gave birth to a beautiful Orange cat!! THAT explains all the strange bumps…. IMG_9133

What to buy and what not to buy:

– 1-2 pairs of skinny pants (jeans/ponte leggings – unless you can borrow them!)

– Fitted Jackets

– Maxi dress

-body-con dress

-t-shirt dress

-cute comfortable shoes

-jewelry (because it is one size fits all!)

I am not an expert, I’ve just been noticing women with great style during their pregnancy and thought I would share with you!! What do you moms have to say? What are your fashion tips and tricks during pregnancy?

DRESSEMBER: Week 1

“Sex trafficking is a form of modern slavery in which someone coerces another person into commercial sex or exploits a child in the commercial sex trade. Simply, it is sexual violence as a business. The nightmare of forced prostitution thrives when law enforcement cannot or does not protect vulnerable children and women.”  – International Justice Mission

To think that this is happening to MILLIONS of children and women all over the globe infuriates me and inspires me want to do something about it.  So when I heard about Dressember, an event that involves wearing dresses every day in order to raise money and awareness in the fight against human trafficking, it was pretty obvious what I had to do: Team up with some beautiful ladies and join the movement!

You can see the rules and learn about the movement HERE!

I think everyone has a cause that makes their heart heavy and this is mine. Instead of pouring ice water on my head I’ve decided to do this! I am going to try to post once a week to show you what dresses I’ve worn during the cold winter.  (Should be fun in Germany….)

DECEMBER 1:

IMG_8484

I had the day off from work, so I wore a maxi dress and knit on the couch almost the whole day – I’ve gotta say, I love me some maxi.

DECEMBER 2:

IMG_8489

Silk dress + booties + festive sweater = perfect holiday work outfit! I just love mint green during the holidays, its the less obvious winter color that I just can’t get enough of.

DECEMBER 3:

IMG_8492

Dressember — Made possible with boots and cozy jackets.

DECEMBER 4:

IMG_8485

Sweatshirt dresses can be worn to work with a fabulous blazer and a sparkly necklace!

DECEMBER 5: Christmas Party!

IMG_8486Yes the panther dress makes another appearance! I mean, what dress could be more perfect for your first work party that says “I’m classy but SUPER FUN!” than a dress with gold panthers on it?

IMG_8487

(yes that is a cat hair on my dress… don’t judge)

DECEMBER 6: Christmas Shopping

IMG_8488

Ok, this really is my formula for looking chic:  Over-the-knee boots + sheer tights+ mini dress + long jacket + long simple necklace.  SO EASY and warm!

DECEMBER 7: Church

IMG_8491

Oh yes leather and velvet.  This outfit will probably be repeated…. I just can’t get enough velvet, and my husband got me this awesome leather jacket for Christmas! WANT TO WEAR IT EVERY DAY.

Mary Katherine is another member of our team who is very passionate about this cause as well AND has impeccable style…. I mean check out this layering! She is amazing.  Get inspired by her looks this week:

My Weekend Looks

Happy Cold Weather!

I felt super cute this weekend (except for Friday, but Friday is still a weekday… it doesn’t count), so I decided to share it with you all.

SATURDAY SHOPPING

Well Saturday I decided I would go down to “the city” and get some Christmas shopping done. When I wrote that, I felt like I was writing a Jane Austen novel, when the family decides to “go to town” which is like 10 miles away and all the girls buy ribbon. But in this town there’s a J.Crew!

IMG_8168

I didn’t feel great Friday, so I thought I would go cozy and comfy with this boxy crop sweater from LOFT. When wearing a boxy sweater or top, pair it with something form fitting underneath to give yourself shape.  Unless you are a box… which is unlikely.

IMG_8172

I thought pairing it with our Chunky Gold Chain necklace would be a great pairing, since the sweater is simple and has a high neckline. And of course, Kate Spade…. Kate Spade anything.

GAME NIGHT

What to wear to game night…. you want to be able to move around , sit on the floor, and look cute.  Cute and sweet, so no one will suspect your competitive spirit.

Why not go with a maxi dress?

IMG_8169

Brown + teal = 😀

IMG_8167

You just cant go wrong.  I also put a statement necklace under the scarf so I could take it off when I started to get more intense with the game playing.

IMG_8173

I just love how my husband knows my love of twirling.  I mean really, who doesn’t?

IMG_8171

FAMILY PICTURES

Well I wanted to wear something semi-festive, but not so much so that I couldn’t use the pictures for something else.  SO, hunter green dress, booties, and a statement necklace. OH and our cat… but thats a whole other story…

IMG_8166

Ok yeah we brought our cat to family picture time at my husbands work… THEY SAID TO BRING PETS. So we brought Brutus in a bow tie.  Which ended up being me with a cat hair covered dress.

IMG_8170

But hey, you do what you do for your family, even if it is just your cat.

Transitioning to Winter

Well, we had a week between 90 degrees and 30 degrees.  It was a nice week.  I went outside, didn’t have to wear shorts, nor did I have to wear a coat.

I miss those days already….

I’m taking this white tee and jeans look from Fall to Winter.

Of course it all starts with an army jacket and a light weight scarf.  And just so you are aware, I am just wearing a white tee shirt, jeans, and booties, then changing everything else.  (Oh and the same purse – that won’t change until I start getting paid to do this, I’m not a professional people!)

IMG_7919

To take it a step further, I add a fuzzy bomber jacket and a slightly heavier scarf.

IMG_7918

This jacket is actually on sale now at Anthropologie! And it is SUPER soft and comfy. It also falls at a nice place on my waist, just enough crop to make it flattering.

Also, notice the front tuck? Yeah I’m J. Crewin’ it up. (at least trying…)

IMG_7917

As you can see from my other posts, I can’t get enough of this scarf.  It literally goes with my entire wardrobe.

And now for the winter coat.

IMG_7920

Ok, I have to admit, I am a little excited to wear this one. I put it with a soft metallic sweater knit scarf – COZY.

IMG_7913

OR you can just put it with your summer chiffon infinity scarf.  You won’t be as cozy, but you will look fabulous!

IMG_7912

Just think of your winter coat as an outerwear dress.  You want to accessorize it too!

Here is the jewelry I’m wearing underneath:

Travel Tips by Nina

A lot of couples have hobbies together, like hiking, running and watching movies…. Daniel and I have a hobby together too—traveling. Daniel does all the planning, and I just read the times on the ticket and make sure I’m there on time. IMG_0544 Living in Enid, I like to travel a lot. I travel so much that the people who work at a Chipotle hours away know who I am. (And I’m hoping to make Premier status on United this year! Yay for shorter lines!) Everyone has their own travel routine, and I am dead set in mine. 20140614-162200-58920839.jpg Here are my travel tips:

1. Bring a laptop or iPad loaded (the night before – unreliable wifi at the airport) with 2-3 rented movies from iTunes. (Or buy a couple episodes of a show you haven’t had the chance to catch up on yet) Even if you think you don’t need that many movies… oh no, your flight just got delayed two hours…. Or your friend who was supposed to pick you up from the airport got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. No worries, you’re gonna chill and watch some movies instead of getting bored and freaking out via text message to your husband.

2. Bring a scarf. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, a scarf can act as a pillow, a blanket, AND a cute accessory. Also, if you get hot, they can be stuffed into almost any size of carryon—even if you’ve stuffed it to the brim.

3. Bring a few forms of ID. In case wherever you are going doesn’t believe you are actually a Florida resident, questions the legitimacy of your ID, and doesn’t want to give you an adult beverage. (Good thing I knew my old address)

4. Use a small cross body bag as your purse. No need to bring a huge shoulder bag with you as your purse on this one. It will help you organize what you really need for travel and it can easily be stuff into a backpack or other carryon luggage. (Because I like to bring THREE carryons) Also, these are great for overseas traveling.

5. If you are traveling overseas to a country known for pick pocketing, spread your money into multiple pockets instead of just putting it in one spot, even put some in your clothes pockets. This way, if you do get robbed they won’t get all your money. IMG_0529 6. I like to wear Toms shoes when I travel. They are comfy, cute, and durable. Also, if you wear sandals on an airplane, you will freeze. FREEZE.

7. Always bring a change of clothes, or three, in your carryon. You never know when your bag will get lost or if your plane gets delayed so much that you just need a change of clothes to feel fresh again. (Or if you want to impress someone when you get off the plane, no shame in that)

8. Bring makeup, a toothbrush, floss, deodorant, a perfume rollerball, and gum with you in your carryon. Need I explain? (Also if you get bored, you can try to figure out how to do the “smoky eye look” and maybe finally perfect it)

9. It is always good to have something to read on the plane if you can’t be using “electronic devices”. I usually always buy a fashion magazine to look through and have a book on my iPad. IMG_0489 10. Wear clothes that you can move around in to get to that perfect lounging pose on the airplane. I like to wear Ponte leggings with leather details, a tank top, a jacket, and a scarf. If I wear something with sleeves I will inevitably sweat through it and be very aware of my BO for the next few hours until I get a shower.

11. If you get stuck at an airport for awhile, find a Chili’s. There is probably a Chili’s. Get a margarita and enchilada soup. $15 later and you will be a lot happier. (Though if you get two margaritas, I wouldn’t blame you)

12. Find your gate, THEN go find food and magazines. I know, I know, there was a Starbucks right when you got to the airport. But guess what, there will also be one closer to your gate, and then you won’t have to carry around a steaming hot beverage while trying to balance all of your luggage, and trying to find your gate which is a tram ride and two escalators away.

13. Always try to carry on your luggage if you can. It is much faster, cheaper, and you will feel better knowing that your nice clothes are safe and sound and that the TSA agents haven’t gone through your luggage and disturbed the equilibrium that is your clothes packed in your bag, and then wonder how they got it all back in your bag without leaving something out. ….. Did they leave something out? Also, much harder for you to lose your bag if you carry it on. IMG_0552 Here is a good clothing packing list that will fit in a carry on bag so you do not have to check! (After packing all these things, you will still have enough room for undergarments and makeup) I put my laptop or iPad in a back back, as well as my small purse.

2. White shorts  (Madewell)20140614-153309.jpg 3. Black Maxi Dress (Forever 21)

Basic tank tops (4-5 so you can have a fresh one or two if you can’t find a washing machine- I packed an orange, taupe, white, grey, and black tank)

Ikat Scarf

17. A simple necklace, or two for a unique layering style all your own.

Short Triple Heart Pendant Necklace

Long Spiked Ball Pendant Necklace

18. Statement Necklace

20140614-153235.jpg 19.  A bathing suit (because who knows, you might end up at a fabulous hotel and want to try out their hot tub)

20. Sunglasses

21.  Small or medium cross body bag

22.  A pair of jeans – JUST IN CASE!

Here are different outfits you can make with these items (with a couple substitutions): 20140614-153212.jpg 20140614-153204.jpg 20140614-153158.jpg 20140614-153152.jpg 20140614-153135.jpg 20140614-153128.jpg 20140614-153122.jpg

To get optimum use of all the clothes you pack on your vacation, make sure they all have the same base color.  For example, what I packed in this carry-on I made sure all of my clothes could go with grey or black.  I did not pack any navy blue.  But if you have more navy blue in your wardrobe, use that as your base color.

Wherever you go this summer, enjoy your trip! And if you’re not going anywhere this summer, you can still look super fabulous and make some ethnic food!

Blue Bell Skirt – 8 Ways

Like the show or not, who doesn’t want to have a little bit of Carrie Bradshaw’s style in their life? We can all have her best, most fashionable accessory– confidence. Be bold with me and wear what you like to wear without being self conscious about it.  (Obviously some exclusion apply, please don’t wear leggings as pants or black undergarments under sheer white clothing– this is not style) Who says you can’t wear whimsy? If you are confident enough, you can wear almost anything you want to.  The only thing that will make a bold outfit seem out of place is your insecurity.

And if all else fails, just put a jean jacket with it, right?

This skirt did it for me.  These bell skirts are the perfect feminine addition to any girl’s closet.  When first trying it on two of my lovely Pensacola friends had to talk me into it. (Thanks Anna and Jess!) Sometimes your friends say things that will stick in your mind forever, and this was one of those moments.  I was questioning my ability to pull it off and wear it to work, and Anna said, “Why can’t you be the one in your office that can pull anything off?” I can be that person.  It is almost all about confidence. (And sometimes your budget…)

20140330-210735.jpg

So I present to you 8 ways to wear the bell skirt.  (My favorite still being the Oklahoma Kitty t-shirt)  The easiest way to wear it is with a tank and a jean jacket, but as I’ve learned from the J. Crew catalogue, a great way to dress down an otherwise fancy skirt– tie a t-shirt at the top of it.

Also, if you are like me and have more dresses than t-shirts, tuck a dress into your skirt! Don’t be afraid to do something unconventional.  Make your closet work for you!

20140405-090228.jpg

Another way to add more detail to to your outfit is to add a scarf.  It can help tie your whole outfit together, especially if the tops you have are very plain. (Also, who doesn’t need more polka dots in their life?)

20140405-091437.jpg
