One Dress, Eight Looks

You guys, I GOT A  JOB! Like, big girl, business suit, water cooler, kind of a job. That is why I have been silent the past week.  But do not despair! I still care about your fashion needs.

Because I lost my camera, I enlisted the help of my gorgeous friend…. AGAIN.

I mean seriously, how awesome is this girl?

Ok enough silliness.

Even after I took all the pictures for this post I kept finding more and more ways to wear this dress, it is SO versatile. This is the kind of dress that you could find at almost any store, for almost any price point.

Celeb Inspired Style – Blake Lively

Sometime’s a girl’s just gotta wear something really girly. I’ve been having the urge to wear skirts since it seems like it’s been a little too long since my legs saw sunlight. I recently purchased a couple mini skirts (perfect for shorties like me) in anticipation for the hopefully-coming-soon spring weather… now I’m just waiting for the forecast to cooperate. Yes, Florida is warm, but I’m learning the panhandle isn’t nearly as warm this time of year as I was hoping for.

Not only is Blake Lively gorgeous, but she struts some pretty adorable outfits when she’s just out and about. I love how this weeks Celeb Inspired Style is a girly and eclectic spring outfit. The pops of yellow with her shoes and bag are a little unexpected but I really love the brightness that they add.

Celeb Inspired Style – Cameron Diaz

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope at least some of you got a lovely 3 day weekend with President’s day. While I do love extra weekend time, it totally throws me off on knowing what day it is for pretty much the whole week. Also I work every day so all it is to me is a day where the post office is closed… Which means no chai latte in my day, since most of my post office runs begin or end in a latte. (is that a business expense?!)

This week’s Celeb Inspired Style has an adorable on-the-go outfit worn by Cameron Diaz. I love so much about this – the coral skinny jeans (hello spring!), minimal sandals with ankle straps, a basic v-neck tee, and that jacket totally polishes off the look. I don’t care who you are, that outfit would easily fit into your life.

Celeb Inspired Style – Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon is another one of those celebs that never goes out of style. You never see her on the “worst dressed” list at red carpet events or any super unflattering pics of her going about her day by the paparazzi. I believe this is because she sticks to classic pieces mixed with a pop of color or a fun trendy piece. That’s the perfect mix for consistently fabulous looks.

Playing with Proportions

Something I have noticed lately while people watching, is that dressing well is all about proportions. With everything in life, you must learn moderation (except with cheese, there is never too much cheese), but you can have too many sequins.

You do not want to wear too much sparkle or too much lace, or too much texture, or too many loose fitting layers.

This dress is very loose, so I had a couple options: Wear a belt with it or wear a structured jacket.

If you just wear a loose fitting dress or top, it is only going to make you look as big as it is. It will only create more volume, when you want to create shape.  So put something with it that creates the shape you want to have.  A great structured jacket will make all the difference.  However, watch for unflattering jackets as well…. for instance, don’t get a jacket that hits right at your hips.  Get a jacket that gives you a small waist and creates an hourglass shape for you.

A cropped moto jacket is a great place to start.  Make sure you try on a few to see what styles flatter your body the best.  I love jackets that are a teeny bit higher in the back than in the front — they make my waist look smaller. I plan to put this floral, quilted, moto, cropped jacket with a loose top and skinny or boyfriend jeans.

More proportion tips to come soon! Happy Friday!!

Burnt Sienna Lace

My lace obsession is seriously getting to be a major problem.  Is there anything more feminine? Every time I wear lace I feel like I should be in a movie.  Plus the color of this dress is UH-mazing.

Everyone has a color that just pops on them, and apparently rust is mine.  One of the reasons I love it so much is that it is such a different color than you usually see.  It goes great with pale pink, emerald green, gold, black, and cobalt.

Pop it with a bright color, or keep it low key with black tights, boots and gold accessories.

Celeb Inspired Style – Katie Holmes

What can I say about Katie Holmes? I’ve loved her ever since I discovered Dawson’s Creek during the 90’s. (I wanted to BE Joey Potter.) Katie’s one of those celebs that not only stays fabulous over time, but manages to look even better with age. That’s one classy chick.

And can I say that her daughter Suri has seriously got to be the cutest kid ever? I mean, it’s to be expected with her genetics but she’s also got style. I’ll have to do a celeb inspired style board on Suri sometime and then dress my future daughter just like her.

In this week’s outfit, Katie’s wearing a super-chic wintery yet glamorous combination. I’m loving the wine peplum with the bright reddish crossbody.
